Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarks to Indonesia for a three-day visit, aimed at enhancing strategic relations between the two maritime neighbours. PM Modi will discuss a key agenda focused on trade, defence and maritime security. The visit holds immense significance, marking the 75th year of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Sharing a post on X, the PM said, "Over the next few days, I will be attending various programmes in Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand. The aim of these meetings would be to boost economic and strategic cooperation with these valued developmental partners and ensure the youth of our nation get more opportunities in the times to come."

 

According to Jagran, sources in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicate that Indonesia is gradually drawing inspiration from many of India's development programmes. During the summit with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto on July 7, the Indonesian Open Network (ION) will conduct its first live transaction. It will create a highly convenient and low-cost digital marketplace for over 65 million micro, small, and medium-sized entrepreneurs.

It is important to note that Indonesia has launched the Digital Nusantara initiative, taking inspiration from India's Aadhaar, UPI, DigiLocker, and e-KYC initiatives. Indian companies are playing a key role in building Indonesia's next-generation digital infrastructure. The two countries are now progressing from merely sharing models to establishing institutional cooperation.

Indonesia has also launched a Free Nutritious Meats Programme, drawing inspiration from India's PM Poshan (Mid-day Meal) Scheme.The two countries also engage in ongoing discussions on maritime security, joint exercises, and capacity building in the Indo-Pacific region.

Strategic Mineral Partnership

Holding the world’s largest reserves of nickel and other rare minerals, Indonesia sits at the epicentre of the electric vehicle (EV), battery, and advanced manufacturing industries.

Currently, the majority of Indonesia's mineral wealth Indonesia exports the majority of its mineral wealth in its raw form. Mirroring strategies of other resource-rich nations, Jakarta is shifting its focus toward domestic processing and refining to secure a higher-value position in the global market.
