On April 22 last year, terrorists killed 26 people, most of them tourists, in Pahalgam in south Kashmir. In response, India launched a military operation on May 7, aimed at dismantling several terror infrastructure sites across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
Memorial Erected In Pahalgam
According to a report by news agency ANI, a memorial has been erected in the hill resort of Pahalgam to honour the 25 tourists and one local ponywallah killed in an attack. The black marble structure, engraved with the names of all 26 victims, is situated along the Lidder River near the meadows of the Baisaran Valley as a solemn tribute to those lost.
Security Stepped Up Across Kashmir
Ahead of the first anniversary, authorities have significantly heightened security across Kashmir, deploying extra police and paramilitary units in and around Pahalgam. Security checks have been intensified, and surveillance has been increased to ensure a peaceful commemoration of the victims.
Speaking to ANI, senior officials said that comprehensive arrangements have been put in place for the memorial event, which is expected to be attended by political leaders, civil society members, local stakeholders, and the families of the victims.
