Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday flagged off the inaugural run of Gujarat's first heritage steam train on the occasion of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's birth anniversary. This locomotive, known as the Ekta Nagar-Ahmedabad Steam Heritage Special Train, will be operational every Sunday, commencing on November 5, 2023.
The Steam Heritage Special Train is an exquisite reproduction of the first indigenously constructed steam locomotive, No. F734. It is adorned with modern interiors and lavish amenities, featuring four air-conditioned Vistadome-type coaches, wooden interiors, teakwood dining tables, and panoramic windows that allow passengers to savour the scenic journey.
Furthermore, it boasts a GPS-based public address and passenger information system, electronically operated automatic compartment doors, a flameless pantry, FRP modular toilets, and efficient luggage rack arrangements. The Ekta Nagar railway station plays an important role in connecting tourists to the iconic Statue of Unity in Gujarat.
Every Sunday, the Ahmedabad-Ekta Nagar Steam Heritage Special Train, with the train numbers 09409 and 09410, will depart from Ahmedabad at 6:10 am, arriving at Ekta Nagar at 9:50 am on the same day. The return journey, designated as Train No. 09410, will leave Ekta Nagar at 8:35 pm on Sundays, reaching Ahmedabad at 12:05 am.
This non-stop voyage covering a distance of 182 kilometres between Ekta Nagar and Ahmedabad offers a one-way ticket for Rs 885, excluding dining costs that are available in the dining car.
