On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the film ‘The Sabarmati Report’, stating that it reveals important truths. In a post on X, he remarked, ““Well said. It is good that this truth is coming out, and that too in a way common people can see it. A fake narrative can persist only for a limited period of time. Eventually, the facts will always come out!”

The Prime Minister's comments were in response to a user who tagged him in a video trailer of the film, which was released on Friday. ‘The Sabarmati Report’ focuses on the tragic burning of the S-6 coach of the Sabarmati Express near Godhra station in Gujarat on February 27, 2002. This incident resulted in the deaths of 59 Hindu devotees returning from Ayodhya and sparked widespread riots across Gujarat.

At the time of the crisis, Narendra Modi served as Gujarat’s Chief Minister, with his name often linked to the events during that period.

The Sabarmati Report is directed by Dheeraj Sarna and produced by Shobha Kapoor, Ektaa R Kapoor, Amul V Mohan and Anshul Mohan. The film features performances by Vikrant Massey, Raashii Khanna, and Ridhi Dogra.

This is not the first time PM Modi has shown support for a film addressing historical issues. In 2022, he praised ‘The Kashmir Files’, directed by Vivek Agnihotri, which depicted the 1990 exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from the Valley. Amid the controversy surrounding that film, Modi remarked, “History must be presented in the right context. Films, like books and literature, can play a crucial role in this.” Well said. It is good that this truth is coming out and that too in a way common people can see it.
