Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his visit Mudumalai Tiger Reserve (MTR) in Nilgiris District on today met with The Elephant Whisperers couple, Bomman and Bellie. He interacted with the caretakers of the elephant and posed for pictures with them.

Sharing many photos from his meet, PM Modi wrote on Facebook, "What a delight to meet the wonderful Bomman and Belli, along with Bommi and Raghu."

He later hailed the documentary which recently won the Academy Award for Documentary Short Film and urged people to learn something from life and tradition of our tribal society.

"The Elephant Whispers documentary that won an Oscar also reflects our legacy of the wonderful relationship between nature and creatures. I urge you (foreign dignitaries) to take something from the life and tradition of our tribal society," said PM Narendra Modi.
He is the first PM to visit Bandipur tiger reserve, which ranks among top tiger sanctuaries in India.

PM Modi visited the Theppakadu Elephant camp in Mudumalai Tiger Reserve on Sunday. He interacted with mahouts and kavadis at the elephant camp. In a video of his visit, Prime Minister Modi was seen feeding sugarcane to an elephant.

He also interacted with field directors of tiger reserves that have scored highest in the recently concluded 5th cycle of the Management Effectiveness Evaluation exercise.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi went on a safari at Bandipur National Park in Karnataka on Sunday. Clad in casuals and donning a hat, PM Modi travelled in an open jeep for one-and-a-half hours and spotted tiger and other wild animals. Nine convoy vehicles followed his jeep in the jungle, authorities said.

PM Modi started his safari from the Bandipur campus and traversed about 12 km in the deep jungles. He went to Bolagudda hill area which offers a spectacular view of the Bandipur National Park. PM Modi had arrived at the Melukamanahalli helipad in the hilly Nilgiris district in a special chopper and travelled to Bandipur.
