Prime Minister Narendra Modi will begin a three-day official visit to Brunei and Singapore from Tuesday. The PM will kickstart his trip by visiting Brunei on September 3 at the invitation of Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah. He is expected to hold bilateral talks with his counterpart to strengthen the relationships between the two countries in all existing areas.
This will also mark the first-ever visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the Southeast Asian nation. The visit comes at a time when both nations are celebrating 40 years of establishment of diplomatic relations.
What's Expected Of PM Modi's Brunei Visit
Unveiling the agenda of PM Modi's Brunei visit, External Affairs Secretary (East) Jaideep Mazumdar said that the PM will be engaging with the country on all aspects of relations and cooperation between India and Brunei.
“As you know, we share a very warm and friendly relationship with Brunei and our engagements cover multiple areas such as defence, trade and investment, energy, space, technology, health, capacity, building, culture and vibrant people-to-people exchanges,” ANI quoted Mazumdar as saying.
"The Indian diaspora in Brunei is about 14,000 and they comprise a substantial number of doctors and teachers in Brunei who have earned goodwill and respect for their contributions to Brunei's economy and society," he added.
PM Modi In Singapore
PM Modi will embark on his journey to Singapore on September 4. He was invited by his Singaporean counterpart Lawrence Wong for an official visit, which is coming after almost 6 years of gap.
During the visit, the Prime Minister will meet with the President of Singapore, H.E. Mr. Tharman Shanmugaratnam, and engage with Singapore's leadership. The Prime Minister is also scheduled to meet with business leaders from Singapore, according to a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs.
