Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the Indian Navy for thwarting a hijacking attempt on a merchant vessel in the North Arabian Sea. Speaking at the All India Conference of Director Generals and Inspector Generals of Police, PM Modi called it a "daring" operation and added that as soon as a message was received from a merchant vessel in the Arabian Sea, the Indian Navy and Marine Commandos got active instantly.

"There were 21 people on this ship, out of which 15 were Indians. Indian Navy reached 2000 kms away from the Indian coast and rescued all of them. You must have also seen that video in which the Indian crew of the ship were raising the slogans of 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai'," PM Modi said, as quoted by news agency ANI.
All 21 crew members, including 15 Indians, on board the Liberian-flagged cargo ship MV Lila Norfolk were safely rescued by the elite MARCOS commandos of the Indian Navy on Friday. This comes after the vessel was hijacked in the Arabian Sea.
PM Modi also said that the new criminal justice laws were enacted with the spirit of "citizen first, dignity first and justice first" and that the police should now give more emphasis on data than 'danda' (stick). He emphasised that the new criminal laws were framed with the spirit of "citizen first, dignity first and justice first' and instead of working with 'danda', police now need to work with "data".
The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam have been enacted recently to replace the Indian Penal Code-1860, the Code of Criminal Procedure-1898, and the Indian Evidence Act of 1872, respectively.
PM Modi said that these news were a paradigm shift in India's criminal justice system. He also said that a special focus was laid on sensitising women and girls about the rights and protection provided to them under the new laws.
The prime minister exhorted the police chiefs to think imaginatively to convey the emotional spirit behind the newly enacted laws to different sections of society. He underscored the need to reinforce the positive image of the police in citizens. He advised that the use of social media at the police station He also suggested using social media for disseminating advanced information on natural calamities and disaster relief.
He also highlighted the success of India's first solar mission, Aditya L1, and said that the success of the Aditya-L1 mission is similar to that of the Chandrayaan-3 mission.
