Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the poll-bound states of West Bengal and Assam for two days, January 17 and 18, where he is set to inaugurate India’s first Vande Bharat sleeper train between Howrah and Kamakhya (Guwahati). Additionally, he will also perform the bhoomi pujan for the Kaziranga elevated corridor.

Here is the itinerary of PM Modi for January 17 and 18 in Bengal and Assam.

PM Modi’s Assam And Bengal Tour: Agenda

January 17

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will commence his visit by flagging off the first Vande Bharat sleeper train connecting Kamakhya (Guwahati) and Howrah from Malda Town railway station. 

  • At Malda, he will also launch several development projects worth over Rs 3,250 crore at a public gathering. 

  • Later in the day, PM Modi will attend the "Bagurumba Dwhou 2026" in Guwahati, a grand Bodo cultural festival at Sarusajai Stadium. Over 10,000 performers from 81 constituencies across 23 districts will take part in the traditional Bodo festival.

January 18

  • The prime minister will inaugurate development projects worth around Rs 830 crore at Singur in Hooghly.

  • PM Modi will also perform the bhoomi pujan for the Kaziranga elevated corridor project, a Rs 6,950-crore highway which features a 35-km elevated wildlife section. 

  • The corridor will also feature a 21-km bypass and a 30-km stretch of the NH-715. 

  • He will also flag off two new Amrit Bharat Express trains at Kaliabor in Nagaon.

  • Additionally, PM Modi will virtually launch four Amrit Bharat Express services connecting New Jalpaiguri with Nagercoil and Tiruchirappalli, and Alipurduar with SMVT Bengaluru and Mumbai (Panvel).

  • He will also inaugurate two new LHB-coach train services- the Radhikapur-SMVT Bengaluru Express and the Balurghat-SMVT Bengaluru Express.

  • The prime minister will lay the foundation for key road and rail infrastructure projects, including the rehabilitation and expansion of the Dhupguri-Falakata section of the NH-31D. The expressway is expected to improve road transportation in North Bengal. 

  • He will dedicate to the nation the electrification of rail lines between New Coochbehar-Bamanhat and New Coochbehar-Boxirhat, enabling faster, cleaner and more energy-efficient train operations.

  • PM Modi’s Bengal and Assam tour will end with the flagging off of two Amrit Bharat Express trains: the Guwahati (Kamakhya)-Rohtak service and the Dibrugarh-Lucknow (Gomti Nagar) service.
