Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Andhra Pradesh’s Amaravati on Friday to lay the foundation stone and inaugurate a total of 94 infrastructure projects worth Rs 57,962 crore. This will mark one of the biggest single-day infrastructure announcements for the state, as per a press release from the Chief Minister's Office.

Out of the total investment, Rs 49,000 crore will go towards 74 projects under the Amaravati greenfield capital reconstruction plan. These include key institutional buildings like the Assembly, Secretariat, High Court and residential quarters for judiciary staff. This marks the second relaunch of Amaravati’s development since the first foundation was laid by PM Narendra  Modi in October 2015.

PM Modi will also inaugurate or lay the foundation for nine central projects worth Rs 5,028 crore. These include the DRDO’s missile testing centre in Nagayalanka at a cost of Rs 1,459 crore, a Unity Mall in Visakhapatnam worth Rs 100 crore, the Guntakal–Mallappa Gate Rail Overbridge at Rs 293 crore and six national highway projects collectively valued at Rs 3,680 crore.

The TDP government under N Chandrababu Naidu revived the Amaravati project after returning to power last year. Earlier, the YSRCP regime (2019–2024) had halted work on Naidu’s capital city dream, which initially saw 54,000 acres pooled from over 29,000 farmers. The earlier regime had only completed a few temporary buildings.

CM Naidu’s vision includes expanding Amaravati into a ‘megacity’ by integrating Mangalagiri, Tadepalli, Guntur, and Vijayawada. The futuristic capital is planned to house nine thematic cities—including Government, Knowledge, Media, and Finance Cities—alongside top institutions like XLRI and BITS Pilani.

Amaravati’s development blueprint involves high-speed highways, rail corridors, and port connectivity to boost exports and integrate agri-markets. The city is envisioned as a hub for AI, logistics, green energy, and clean industries. Naidu has proposed a funding requirement of Rs 77,249 crore, of which Rs 31,000 crore has already been secured through the World Bank, HUDCO and Germany’s KfW.
