A day after former US president Donald Trump claimed that he would be meeting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Thursday refused to confirm or deny a potential meeting.

When inquired about a possible meeting between PM Modi and Trump, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri replied, "We are in the process of arranging several meetings with the Prime Minister."

"PM has many meetings that we are trying to fix within the limited time," the MEA spokesperson said.

“Right now, I will not be able to tell you about any specific meeting, whether the meeting has been fixed or not. We are looking from all angles as to how much time we have and with whom we can hold meetings. We will keep updating you about the meetings," he added.

PM Modi To Address Indian Diaspora In US

Misri further stated that the trip will feature important bilateral and multilateral engagements. PM Modi is also scheduled to address the Indian community in New York on September 22 during his three-day visit.

The Prime Minister's trip will begin in Delaware, President Biden's home state, on September 21. There, he will attend the Quad Leaders' Summit and a bilateral meeting, followed by participation in the Cancer Moonshot event.

Throughout the trip, Modi will engage with the Indian diaspora and hold meetings with industry leaders.

Meanwhile, during his first public appearance on Tuesday since the recent apparent assassination attempt, Trump mentioned that Modi will meet with him next week during his US visit.

“So when India, which is a very big abuser. He (Modi) happens to be coming to meet me next week, and Modi, he’s fantastic. I mean, fantastic man. A lot of these leaders are fantastic,” Trump said.
