PM Modi In Italy: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Italy's Apulia late Thursday night to attend the G7 Summit, where India is invited as an outreach country. Upon his arrival at Brindisi Airport, he was welcomed by India's Ambassador to Italy, Vani Rao, and other officials. This trip marks PM Modi's first international visit after assuming office for his third consecutive term.
"PM @narendramodi touches down at Brindisi airport in Apulia, Italy. The agenda includes participation in the Outreach session of the G7 Summit & substantive interactions with the global leaders on the sidelines. An action-packed day awaits!" the official spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, Randhir Jaiswal, wrote in a post on X.

The G7 summit is being held at the Borgo Egnazia resort in Apulia from June 13-15. PM Modi is attending at the invitation of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. In his departure statement, PM Modi expressed his pleasure at making Italy his first foreign visit after taking oath for the third time. He recalled his previous visit to Italy for the G20 Summit in 2021 and emphasised the significance of Meloni's visits to India last year in enhancing bilateral relations.
"I am glad that my first visit in the third consecutive term is to Italy for the G-7 Summit. I warmly recall my visit to Italy for the G20 Summit in 2021. Prime Minister Meloni's two visits to India last year were instrumental in infusing momentum and depth into our bilateral agenda. We remain committed to consolidating the India-Italy strategic partnership, and bolster cooperation in the Indo-Pacific and the Mediterranean regions," PM Modi had said.
PM Modi Italy Visit: What Is On Agenda
- During his day-long visit, Prime Minister Modi will participate in a summit session titled "Artificial Intelligence, Energy, Africa-Mediterranean," hosted by the Italian PM and joined by Pope Francis.
- Pope Francis is expected to hold bilateral talks with PM Modi. Modi has a series of meetings scheduled with various world leaders including Meloni.
- He is also expected to hold bilateral talks with US President Joe Biden, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, French President Emmanuel Macron, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
"I look forward to meeting fellow world leaders and discussing a wide range of issues aimed at making our planet better and improving the lives of people," PM Modi said in a statement on Thursday.
