'Curb Use Of Petrol, Diesel, Think WFH, Don't Buy Gold': PM Modi's Strategy To Shield India Amid West Asia Crisis

As the ongoing conflict in the Middle East continues to disrupt global supply chains and upend the oil market, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday called for collective participation, urging citizens to conserve petrol and diesel. He also suggested opting for public transport, avoiding unnecessary foreign travel, and avoiding non-essential gold purchases to help stabilise the national economy.

"Patriotism is not only about the willingness to sacrifice one's life on the border. In these times, it is about living responsibly and fulfilling our duties to the nation in our daily lives," the prime minister said.

PM Modi Calls For Collective Action

PM Modi called for collective participation to help India overcome global economic disruptions, supply chain challenges, and rising prices caused by the Middle East conflict.

What Measures Did PM Modi Suggest?

The prime minister outlined several strategic measures, including:

- He urged citizens to curb the use of petrol and diesel by opting for public transport and metros, wherever possible. He also suggested opting for car-pooling, using the railway for goods transport and increasing the adoption of electric vehicles.

- Drawing from the COVID-era practices, he encouraged the revival of work-from-home models, online conferences, and virtual meetings.

- To protect foreign exchange reserves, he appealed to the public to avoid overseas vacations and foreign weddings.

- The prime minister also requested to avoid non-essential gold purchases for a year.

- Additionally, he asked families to reduce edible oil consumption, stressing that it would benefit the national economic health and personal health.

- He also encouraged the people to prioritise Made-in-India and locally manufactured products, including daily-use items like shoes and bags.

- The prime minister urged the farmers to cut the use of chemical fertilisers by 50 per cent and adopt solar-powered irrigation pumps instead of diesel pumps.
