The Government of India announced a new scheme named “PM Vishwakarma” which aims to provide recognition, skill upgradation, credit support, incentives and marketing support to small-scale artisans, who are engaged in traditional crafts. The scheme will be launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion of Vishwakarma Jayanti, which is coinciding with his birthday this year on September 17, at the India International Convention and Expo Centre in New Delhi.

The scheme is funded by the Union Government with an outlay of Rs 13,000 crore. Under the scheme, the Vishwakarmas (small-scale artisans) will be provided basic and advance training, a toolkit incentive of Rs 15,000, collateral-free credit support up to Rs 1 lakh (first tranche) and Rs 2 lakh (second tranche) at an interest rate of 5 per cent, marketing support and incentive for digital transactions.

Eligibility Criteria For PM Vishwakarma Scheme: 

  • A small-scale artisan or craftsperson who is working with hands or tools and engaged in one of the 18 family-based traditional artistic businesses mentioned in the scheme. 

  • The applicant should be above 18 years of age on the date of registration.

  • The beneficiary should not have availed loans in any other similar credit-based scheme sponsored by the union or state government.

  • Only one member of the family can register for the scheme.

  • A family in which any member is employed by the government cannot apply for the benefits of the scheme.

How To Apply For PM Vishwakarma Scheme: 

People eligible for the benefits of the scheme can apply through their Aadhar Card by seeking applications through Common Service Centres (CSCs) available in the concerned districts across the country. The eligible candidates will be registered free of charge using biometric-based PM Vishwakarma Portal. They will also receive a PM Vishwakarma certificate and ID card.
