PuneBengaluru Expressway Status Update: To boost connectivity between Maharashtra and Karnataka, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is developing an expressway between Pune and Bengaluru. As part of the Bharatmala Pariyojana Phase-II, this access-controlled expressway will be 700-km long and reduce travel time by half. The Pune-Bengaluru Expressway will pass through multiple districts in Maharashtra and Karnataka, significantly boosting economic activity and transportation efficiency.

Pune-Bengaluru Expressway Routes

The expressway will begin at Kanjle on the proposed Pune Ring Road in Maharashtra and pass through the following districts:

Maharashtra: Pune, Sangli, and Satara.

Karnataka: Bommanal (Athani Taluk), Belagavi (Athani), Jamakhandi, Bagalkot, Badami, Mudhol, Nargund, Gadag (Ron), Yelaburga (Koppal), Vijayanagara (Kudligi), Davangere (Jagaluru), Madhugiri, Chitradurga Taluk, Koratagere, Nelamangala, Tumakuru, and Bangalore Rural (Doddaballapur).

Pune-Bengaluru Expressway Features

Total Length: 700 km

Reduction in Distance: Around 95 km shorter than the existing route.

Interchanges: 22 interchanges to improve road connectivity.

Emergency Airstrips: Two emergency airstrips, each spanning 5 km, near Pune and Bengaluru for emergency landings.

Pune-Bengaluru Expressway Travel Time And Connectivity

At present, travel time between Pune and Bengaluru is about 15 hours. Once operational, the Pune-Bengaluru Expressway will reduce this time to just seven hours, significantly improving travel efficiency. Additionally, it will connect with the Pune-Mumbai Expressway, further enhancing regional connectivity.
