A Pune-Delhi Air India flight on Friday was cancelled following a bird hit during its incoming journey from the national capital. When the flight safely landed at the Pune airport, a bird hit was noticed while officials were preparing the plane for the return journey to Delhi. Subsequently, the flight was grounded for further checks.

In its statement regarding the cancellation of the flight, Air India said, "Flight AI2470 scheduled to operate from Pune to Delhi on 20 June 2025 has been cancelled due to a bird-hit which was detected after the incoming flight landed safely at Pune. The aircraft has been grounded to carry out extensive checks."

The airline also apologised for the inconvenience caused, calling the event ‘unforeseen’, and issued alternative arrangements to the passengers. Air India also issued full refunds or complimentary rescheduling to the passengers. The airline has also made alternate arrangements to transport passengers to Delhi.

"Refunds on cancellation or complimentary rescheduling are also being offered to guests who opt for it. Alternative arrangements are being made to fly the passengers to Delhi," the statement read.

The AI2470 flight was grounded in Pune after a bird strike, as bird strikes can cause mechanical issues. However, no injuries were reported, and the crew and all the passengers safely landed in Pune. After the bird hit was detected, teams arrived at the airport and an in-depth inspection was carried out to ensure the safety of passengers.

Air India's operational woes continue to grow as four domestic flights and four international flights were cancelled on June 20. The airline authorities, in a statement about flight cancellations, mentioned that the flight was cancelled due to maintenance and operational reasons. The chain of flight disruptions follows the tragic Ahmedabad-London Air India flight crash on June 12, which claimed the lives of 241 on board.
