Pune Weather: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for Pune and several other areas warning of extremely heavy rainfall in isolated locations until today, August 26. The ghat regions of Pune, Satara, and Raigad have experienced heavy rainfall over the past 24 hours. Tamhini recorded the highest rainfall at 230 mm, followed by Bhira in Raigad with 201 mm, and Lonavala with 146 mm. Lavasa also received significant rainfall of 201 mm, while other areas like Malin and Chinchwad saw 70 mm and 54.5 mm, respectively. The weather body has predicted heavy rainfall in Pune city with cloudy conditions expected until August 30.
Pune Weather Forecast
From August 26 to August 31, Pune will experience generally cloudy skies with varying intensities of rain. On August 26, heavy rainfall is expected, with temperatures ranging between 22 degrees Celsius and 26 degrees Celsius. Moderate Rain is forecast from August 27 to August 29, with temperatures fluctuating between 23 degrees Celsius and 28 degrees Celsius. On August 30 and 31, rainfall will continue, and temperatures will remain consistent at 24 degrees Celsius to 28 degrees Celsius.
A senior IMD official elaborated that the monsoon has become active across Maharashtra due to a strengthened offshore trough from south Gujarat to the south Kerala coast and a well-marked low- pressure area over the Bay of Bengal. This has resulted in increased rainfall over the state, including Pune.
The IMD also warned residents in Pune city for reduced visibility, slippery roads, traffic disruptions, and moderate waterlogging in low-lying areas and near riverbanks. There are also concerns about falling tree branches and minor landslides in hilly regions.
The situation in Pune worsened as low-lying areas along the Mutha river were flooded after the water discharge from the Khadakwasla dam increased to 35,310 cusecs from 27,841 cusecs on Saturday. The discharge was increased due to heavy rainfall in the Temghar, Varasgaon, and Panshet dams, which all recorded over 100 mm of rainfall.
