BALWINDER Gill, Punjab Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) SC morcha general secretary Balwinder Gill was shot by some unidentified persons in Amritsar's Jandiala Guru area, the Police said on Monday. The incident took place on Sunday night after an unidentified assailant, who had his face covered, entered Gill's residence and fired at the BJP leader at point-blank range.
According to Superintendent of Police Jugraj Singh, quoted by PTI, said Gill suffered a gunshot to his jaw and was immediately taken to a nearby hospital. Gill was shifted to a private hospital in Amritsar after his condition worsened, Singh added.
Dr Randhir from KD Hospital said the bullet hit the BJP leader's chin, injuring his face. He said his lower bone is also fractured in the incident. Later, he stated that the BJP leader is out of danger.
The assailant was waiting outside the BJP leader's residence, the Police said. Singh also added that several police teams were working on the case and had collected vital clues from the spot.
