In a surprising turn of events, a dismissed Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) formed an auto-lifting gang with his two companions and started stealing vehicles. Based on secret information, Punjab's Sahnewal police station arrested two accused and recovered a stolen car from Haryana.

Third accused Mantej Singh absconded

The accused have been identified as Amandeep Singh (dismissed ASI), a resident of Garcha Colony, and his companion, Ganitpal Singh, a resident of Ramgarh Road. The third accused, Mantej Singh, managed to abscond. The police produced both the accused in court and took them on a two-day remand.

Providing details, ASI Gurmeet Singh said that on March 23, he was present at Sahnewal Chowk with the police team when a piece of information was received that the accused had stolen a car from Haryana and put a bike number plate on it. They were present in the plot at Tibba Canal Bridge to sell the stolen car.

Accused's father is retired DSP.

Acting upon the information, police raided the place and nabbed Amandeep Singh and Ganitpal and recovered the car, but Mantej managed to escape. Investigation revealed that the accused had stolen a Hyundai Verna car from Haryana's Hisar district. They had put the number plate of a bike registered in Mohali.

Following this, they sold the car to a person who called them to the Tibba Canal bridge. The police said that the person who came to buy the car asked for the documents to which the accused failed and the deal was subsequently cancelled.

Later, they took the car to a plot in the area, where the police arrested the accused. As per the police, three cases have already been registered against Amandeep Singh. His father is also a retired DSP from the police. Mantej also has many cases registered against him in different police stations.

Amardeep dismissed from Punjab Police for absence from work

ASI Gurmeet Singh said that the accused Amandeep was recruited as ASI in Punjab Police in the year 2006. He was posted in a police station in Ludhiana. He used to remain absent from work, due to which he was dismissed after some time.

Ganitpal Singh told the police that he came in contact with Amandeep and Mantej only 20 days ago. Accused Ganitpal had passed class 12 and was doing IELTS. At present, his remaining details are being collected.
