Punjab Shooting AAP Leader: An AAP leader died while a few others sustained bullet injuries after bike-borne gunmen opened fire at a party meeting in Lakhuwal village of Amritsar's Ajnala on Friday. The attack came a few hours ahead of the phase-7 voting of the Lok Sabha polls which are slated to take place on June 1. According to Dainik Jagran, the attack took place when Aam Aadmi Party volunteers were meeting in Lakhuwal village and discussing the arrangements for food for the workers during the elections to be held on Saturday.
According to the report, three unidentified assailants opened fire when local AAP leader Deepinder Singh was giving instructions to the party workers.
The police rushed to the spot after they were informed about the attack. The reason behind the attack could not be ascertained yet. The police have taken the body of Deep Inder Singh into custody. The post-mortem of the body will be conducted on Saturday morning.
Police Search For Shooting Suspects
Deepinder Singh was critically injured by gunfire. After the shooting, the three youths on the bike fled the scene. Bystanders attempted to chase them but were unsuccessful in capturing the suspects.
Those present at the scene managed to rush Deepinder Singh and his companions to the hospital, where doctors pronounced Deepinder Singh dead. The injured have been identified as Sukhcharan Jeet Singh, Major Singh, Dilbagh Singh, and Sumit Singh, all residents of Lakkhuwal village. SSP Satinder Singh stated that the reasons behind the incident are currently under investigation.
