Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his Punjab counterpart Bhagwant Mann on Sunday launched a state government scheme to provide citizen-centric services at people’s doorstep. The scheme was part of the poll promise that helped the party garner significant political gains in Delhi during the assembly and local elections.

Under the 'Bhagwant Mann Sarkar Tuhade Dwar’ scheme, people in Punjab will take the benefit of 43 government services including the issuance of certificates of birth, marriage, death, income, residence, caste, rural area, border area, backward area, pension, payment of electricity bills and land demarcation.

The Aam Aadmi Party claimed that this remote governance would not only make people's lives easier but also help the state exchequer save more than Rs 200 crore by eliminating all logistical costs.

“The Aam Aadmi Party has scripted history today. In the days to come, when children will be asked when the problems of the common man having to visit government offices unnecessarily were solved, they will think back to today,” Bhagwant Mann said while calling the launch a ‘historic moment’.

Meanwhile, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal called the scheme ‘revolutionary’ and hailed the Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab government for taking steps against corruption. He also emphasised that the state government is carrying out raids to arrest big leaders who ‘looted’ Punjab in the last 75 years.

"The work that is going to commence in Punjab is no less than a revolution. It is a revolutionary step," Kejriwal was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

Hitting out at the BJP and Congress government, Kejriwal said that unlike previous governments in Delhi and Punjab, the AAP has kept its welfare promises.

We started this scheme in Delhi five years ago. This scheme could have started in Punjab many years ago. What were the governments doing in these states for the last 75 years? They simply lacked the intent to implement these schemes," Kejriwal said.
