A woman was arrested for allegedly poisoning her two young children in Bathinda, Punjab. The suspect, believed to be involved in an extramarital affair, is said to have fed her children food laced with rat poison.

The tragic events unfolded over the course of two weeks. The eight-year-old girl, Sukhpreet Kaur, died under suspicious circumstances 15 days ago, followed by her six-year-old brother, Fatehveer, on Friday night. Villagers then approached the police station on Saturday morning, calling for a thorough investigation, according to an NDTV report.

Police officer Manoj Kumar confirmed that the mother, Jassi Kaur, has confessed to the crime.

"First, Sukhpreet Kaur, aged 8, died. Then, yesterday, a boy named Fatehveer, aged 6, also died. Jassi Kaur killed both children after conspiring to do so. She has admitted to giving them rat poison," said Manoj Kumar.

Investigators claim that she had conspired with her sister, Moto Kaur, and another individual, Lakhi Singh.

"One of her sisters and another person, Lakhi Singh, were involved in the conspiracy. Jassi Kaur and her sister, Moto Kaur, have been arrested," the officer added.
