Punjab Schools Closed:Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann ordered on Sunday evening that all schools, including private and government-aided, in the state will be shut from January 8 to 14. 

The decision comes as harsh winter batters several states of the country. The announcement was made by Mann from the social media handle of the Chief Minister's office in Punjab.

"In view of inclement weather conditions in the region, CM @BhagwantMann
 has ordered that all government, government aided and private schools in state will remain close from January 8-14. CM said that in larger interests of school going students, this order was necessitated," the post read.

 

On Sunday, cold weather conditions persisted in the state. Amritsar in Punjab reeled under biting chill, recording a minimum temperature of 5.8 degrees Celsius, according to the Meteorological Department.

Ludhiana, Patiala, Pathankot, Bathinda, Faridkot and Gurdaspur also experienced a cold night, recording respective minimums of 6.5 degrees Celsius, 7 degrees Celsius, 6.2 degrees Celsius, 7 degrees Celsius, 7 degrees Celsius and 6 degrees Celsius.
