Bihar's first and only woman Chief Minister, Rabri Devi Yadav, turned 68 on Monday. On this special occasion, let's look at the life of Bihar's three-time Chief Minister and wife of RJD stalwart Lalu Prasad Yadav.

Devi was born on January 1, 1955, in Salar Kalan village in Bihar's Gopalganj to Shiv Prasad Chaudhary and Maharjia Devi. She has 3 sisters, Jalebi, Rashulla, and Paan along with 3 brothers,  Subhash Prasad Yadav and Sadhu Yadav.

Rabri Devi: Political Career

Devi started her political journey on July 25, 1997, as Bihar's first female Chief Minister after her husband was forced to resign due to an arrest warrant against him in a fodder scam case. Her first tenure as Chief Minister lasted for 2 years (25-07-1997 to 11-02-1999). After this, she held the office from March 9, 1999, to March 2, 2000. She was elected to the post of Chief Minister on March 11, 2000, for the third time and reigned till 2005.

She got married to Lalu Prasad Yadav, former Chief Minister of Bihar (1990-1997) and former Railway Minister of India (2004-2009), on June 1, 1973, at the age of 14 while Lalu was aged 25. The couple have 2 sons and 7 daughters. Her younger son, Tejashvi Yadav is the current and fifth Deputy CM of Bihar. Devi’s political journey is shown in the TV series, Maharani, which was released in 2021.
