Brazil Police-Gang Shootout: At least seven suspects were killed in a shootout between police and suspected members of a criminal gang in southern Brazil, local media reported on Monday. The fight broke out in the early hours of Sunday morning in the Parolin district of Curitiba, the capital city of southern Parana state.
Residents had reported hearing more than 50 gunshots and seeing suspects walking around the streets with large-caliber weapons, news agency IANS reported citing Xinhua news agency.

Police encountered a barrage of gunfire upon their arrival, sparking a heated gunfight. According to the military police, they discovered ten weapons, two bulletproof vests, AK-47 rounds, and tools for converting handguns into long-range weapons on the scene. The initial shootings were due to rival gangs fighting for control of local drug sales, the report said.
On Friday, six people were killed by gunmen at a party in northwest Mexico, including an alleged criminal believed to have been targeted in the attack, authorities said.

"Initial investigations indicate that it was a direct attack against the leader of a criminal group who had arrest warrants for attempted femicide, homicide, illegal deprivation of liberty and criminal association," the Sonora state prosecutor's office said as quoted by AFP.
