Investigators have given clean chit to tennis player Radhika Yadav’s mother, Manju Yadav, arguing that she was unaware of husband’s intent to kill daughter.

Deepak Yadav, father of state-level tennis champion, was sent to 14-day Judicial custody on Saturday over allegations of killing 25-year-old daughter. Radhika Yadav was shot by father four times at their residence in Sector 57, Gurugram.

The probe team, on the basis of preliminary investigation, said that victim’s mother Manju Yadav neither knew husband’s plan nor witnessed the incident.

51-year-old Deepak was apprehended from his home in Gurugram soon after killing his daughter on Thursday. Radhika Yadav ran a tennis academy in Gurugram where she used to train 20 students.

Police also recovered a licensed gun from his possession, as it was used to shoot at Radhika. Meanwhile, four bullet pellets were extracted from Radhika’s back during the autopsy.

During the court proceeding, police had asked for a two-day custody to interrogate the accused, but the court denied the request and granted only a day remand on Friday. On Saturday, the local court gave a 14-day judicial custody of Deepak Yadav.

Sandeep Kumar, public relations officer of Gurugram police, said on Saturday that any evidence proving the involvement of Radhika’s mother in her killing has not surfaced as of now. “She had no inkling that Deepak was going to kill their daughter,” he said. “There was initial suspicion that she might have also been involved in the killing, but nothing adverse was found against her. Investigation indicated that Deepak had acted alone in Radhika’s murder,” he said.

As per the investigators, Deepak broke down in front of his relatives on Friday for the first time and urged them to ensure that he gets a death sentence for killing his daughter.

According to an investigator who preferred anonymity, “He has offered limited information. Probably, he is in a state of shock or remorse...,” Hindustan Times reported.
