Parliament Winter Session: Home Minister Amit Shah and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi got involved in a war of words during the ongoing debate over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in the Lok Sabha. While the home minister was addressing the house, Gandhi challenged him to a debate on the alleged poll rigging. However, Shah clarified that only he can decide the order of his speech. The chaos broke out amid the ongoing debate on the revision of the voters list in several states. While the opposition has claimed that the revision has been conducted to remove voters of marginalised communities, the Election Commission has clarified that the process was as per the constitution.

While the home minister was addressing the chair, Rahul Gandhi challenged him to have a debate on his press conferences, alleging "poll rigging". “Let us have a debate on my press conferences. Amit Shah ji, I challenge you to have a debate on my three press conferences,” Gandhi stated.

However, Shah stated that the opposition leaders should not create chaos during the speech, adding that no one can force him to speak on a particular issue. He further stated that every question will be answered; however, the opposition must have the patience.

“First of all, I want to make it clear… I have long experience, and I will decide the order of my speech… they should be patient… I will answer each question… but they cannot decide the order of my speech,” Shah emphasised.

The home minister also accused the Congress of vote theft by alleging the "Gandhi-Nehru family" has a history of poll rigging. However, the opposition leaders stated that while Shah gave many historical references, he did not address the current situation.
