Vote Chori Issue: Rahul Gandhi, LoP Lok Sabha and Congress leader, continued his attack on the Election Commission of India over alleged vote theft. On Friday, he used a comic Bollywood movie-style 1.03-minute-long clip featuring two policemen and one villager to target the election body.

The Congress leader released a video titled "laapata vote" to support his allegation. The caption of the X post of Gandhi read - "'Chori chori, chupke chupke' no more, the public has woken up."

He tells plolicemen that his "vote has been stolen". He also tells the cops that "lakhs of votes are being stolen", leaving the police personnel wondering if their vote has also been "stolen".

The minute-long video is titled 'laapata vote' with 'ladies' cut out from between, a reference to the Kiran Rao-directed movie 'Laapata Ladies'.

The Congress has claimed that "vote chori" was a "do-or-die" issue for it, and announced a roadmap to take its allegations to the people through various activities. The opposition party has also launched a web portal for people to register and demand accountability from the poll panel against what it called "vote chori", and express support for the demand for digital voter rolls

Election Commission's Stand

The Election Commission of India vehemently refused the allegations, asking Gandhi to submit a declaration on the issue or publicly apologise for his charges. The poll body asked people to file an objection if there was an issue in the recently conducted Bihar SIR (Special Intensive Revision of Electoral Rolls).
