Soon after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) slammed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his post on X (formerly Twitter) regarding tribute to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose on his birth anniversary today, Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) also called out the party and said the Congress MP’s post is not acceptable.
In his post, Gandhi mentioned the Indian freedom fighter’s date of death as August 18, 1945. “Heartfelt tribute to the great revolutionary, founder of Azad Hind Fauj, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose on his birth anniversary. Netaji’s leadership, courage, struggle for social justice, his contribution towards tolerance and inclusion continue to inspire every Indian even today. My respectful salute to the immortal son of Mother India, Jai Hind!” Gandhi wrote.

However, Gandhi's post stirred controversy as both the TMC and BJP criticized his reference to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose's death date as August 18, 1945.
Hitting out at Gandhi over his post on Netaji’s birth anniversary, TMC leader Kunal Ghosh said, "The post of Rahul Gandhi is wrong and is not acceptable. We are celebrating the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose...We don't know whether the theory regarding the air crash accident of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose is correct or not.”
“The date of death that Rahul Gandhi has mentioned is wrong, he should correct it," Ghosh added.
Earlier in the day, Union minister and BJP leader Sukanta Majumdar slammed the Congress MP from Raebareli and asked him to issue an apology within 24 hours for disrespecting Netaji.
"I strongly protest the claim that Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose died on August 18, 1945, as stated in social media posts by Rahul Gandhi. I also demand that Rahul Gandhi apologise within the next 24 hours for showing disrespect to Netaji, who was the first Prime Minister of India," Majumdar wrote on X. "I appeal to all of Netaji's followers to raise your voices by sharing this demand,” he added.
