Congress senior leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday triggered a huge row after he reportedly called Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah traitors in Raebareli. While addressing a 'Bahujan Swabhiman Sabha', the leader of opposition in Lok Sabha alleged that the BJP has insulted freedom fighters like Mahatma Gandhi and BR Ambedkar. He reiterated that wrong policies of the Modi government have damaged the economy of India.

While addressing the crowd, Gandhi stated that while PM Modi has asked the people to avoid foreign travels, the prime minister himself is on a five-nation visit. "The Prime Minister tells people not to travel abroad, and then himself travels overseas in aircraft worth thousands of crores," he said. The senior Congress leader asked the people to confront the RSS workers, adding that both the prime minister and home ministers are traitors.

"When these RSS workers come before you and speak about Narendra Modi and Amit Shah, you should tell them to their face that your Prime Minister is a traitor, your Home Minister is a traitor…Your organisation is traitorous. You have worked to sell out India," Gandhi was quoted as saying by News18.

BJP Hits Back

While reacting to his remarks, BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla stated that the Congress has left no chance to disrespect the prime minister. He further alleged that Gandhi insults PM Modi because he belonged to the OBC.

"Congress talks about being a 'mohabbat ki dukaan', but this is their real identity. They have repeatedly insulted PM Modi and even targeted his mother. Because the Prime Minister comes from an OBC background, they have always disrespected him," Poonawalla stated.

Rahul Gandhi's remarks came days after the prices of diesel and petrol were increased twice within a week amid the ongoing crisis in the West Asia. He alleged that the inflation would have been under control if the NDA government took the matter seriously.
