The District Judge Court of Sambhal issued a notice to Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Thursday, asking him to either respond or appear in court on April 4 regarding a complaint filed against him over his statement that "Our fight is not against the BJP or RSS, but against the Indian state."
Speaking to ANI, Advocate Sachin Goyal confirmed that the court had accepted the complaint and directed Gandhi to either appear in person on April 4 or submit a written response.
"Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi made a statement on January 15, 2025, saying, 'We are now fighting the BJP, the RSS, and the Indian State itself.' A complaint was filed by Simran Gupta in the special MP/MLA court seeking an FIR against him. However, the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) dismissed it on jurisdictional grounds," Advocate Goyal explained.
"We then filed a revision petition against the order, and as a result, the District Judge Court of Sambhal has now summoned Rahul Gandhi to appear in court on April 4," he added.

On January 15, while inaugurating the Congress' new headquarters, 'Indira Bhawan,' Rahul Gandhi launched a sharp attack on the BJP, claiming that the opposition was not only fighting the BJP but also the Indian state itself.
"Our ideology, like the RSS ideology, is thousands of years old and has been in opposition to RSS ideology for generations. This is not a fair fight. If you think we are only fighting a political organisation like the BJP or RSS, you haven't understood the situation. The BJP and the RSS have taken control of every institution in our country. We are now fighting the BJP, the RSS, and the Indian state itself," he had stated.
Further criticizing the state of institutions and media in India, he added, "We do not know whether our institutions are functioning properly. It is evident what the media is doing, and people are aware that it is no longer free and fair."
The case against Rahul Gandhi is now under legal scrutiny, with the next hearing scheduled for April 4.
