London's Heathrow Airport closed down for several hours on Friday after fire at an electrical substation led to power outage. The airport authorities have urged the travelers to follow the updates and to contact their airline for any information. Several videos have gone viral on social media platforms showcasing the massive fire at the airport.
In a post on X, the airport authorities stated that the administration is committed to provide safety to the passengers. “Due to a fire at an electrical substation supplying the airport, Heathrow is experiencing a significant power outage. To maintain the safety of our passengers and colleagues, Heathrow will be closed until 23h59 on 21 March," a post on the airport’s X handle read.
“Passengers are advised not to travel to the airport and should contact their airline for further information. We apologise for the inconvenience," the post added.

While considering the magnitude of the incident, Air India stated that the operations to and from the airport have been disrupted. Following a significant power outage, operations at London Heathrow (LHR) have been suspended till 2359 hours (local time) on March 21.
In a post on X, Air India urged the travellers to stay updated and plan their travel accordingly to avaoid any inconvinience. "Due to a significant power outage, London Heathrow Airport has been shut down until 23:59 on 21st March. All Air India flights to and from London Heathrow for 21st March have been cancelled. For more information or assistance, please call our Contact Centre at +91 1169329333 / +91 1169329999. UK-bound customers, please call +44 203 757 2760," the airline stated.
"This will clearly have a significant impact on our operation and our customers and we're working as quickly as possible to update them on their travel options for the next 24 hours and beyond," British airways stated.
