In a move to enhance healthcare access for railway employees, those in urgent need of medical attention can now be admitted to private hospitals under the railway panel using an Umeed card. This development allows railway employees to bypass the usual step of obtaining a referral from railway hospitals during emergencies.
How Railway Employees Can Access Free Medical Facilities In Private Hospitals
When a railway employee is admitted to a private hospital, the facility must send an online emergency referral letter to the respective railway hospital within 24 hours. Following this, free treatment will be provided, contingent upon the railway hospital's approval. However, it is important to note that this streamlined process is exclusive to emergency situations. In non-urgent cases, employees must follow the standard referral process from a railway hospital to the designated private hospital.
The Lalit Narayan Mishra Central Railway Hospital (LNM) has maintained partnerships with 13 private hospitals to facilitate this service. Recently, LNM administration secured a cashless treatment agreement with Medanta, The Medicity, located in Sector-38, Gurgaon, which will remain effective until September 30, 2025. With the consent of General Manager Saumya Mathur, Medical Director Dr. Md. Asgar Ali Khan has directed Chief Medical Superintendents in Lucknow, Varanasi, Izzatnagar and Gonda to refer patients to Medanta as needed.

In a related initiative, the Bareilly Police have launched a programme to support elderly residents in the district. Following instructions from Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Anurag Arya, local police are compiling a list of elderly individuals, including couples and those living alone, to ensure they receive necessary assistance.
The initiative aims to reach out to elderly citizens who may be vulnerable or in need of help. Once the list is complete, beat constables will be assigned to check on these individuals regularly. Each constable will establish contact with the elderly, sharing their own phone number for emergencies, ensuring that help is just a call away when needed.
