Railway Inflammable Iteam Ban: Responding promptly to the news of passengers carrying firecrackers on trains at multiple stations including New Delhi, Anand Vihar, and Jabalpur, the Ministry of Railways has initiated a campaign against the transportation of inflammable items on trains throughout the railway network.
Following the directive issued by the Ministry, all Zonal Railways have launched an intensive awareness drive for passengers. Meanwhile, Railways have also urged passengers to stop carrying inflammable objects and also stop co-passengers if they are doing so.
Banned Inflammables
Railways has prohibited passengers from carrying inflammable and explosive items like firecrackers, gas cylinders acid, petrol, and kerosene during train journeys.
Steps taken by Railways
Public Announcements:
Regular announcements are being made at railway stations, urging passengers not to carry inflammable and explosive items like firecrackers, gas cylinders acid, petrol, and kerosene during train journeys.
Vigilance Measures:
Zonal Railways have instructed officials to maintain a strict vigil on passenger movements during train travel. Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel are on high alert.
Security Checks:
Thorough scanning of luggage and parcel items is in place before loading onto trains to ensure the safety of passengers.
Special Safety Drive:
The East Coast Railway (ECoR) has initiated a special safety drive across its divisions—Khurda Road, Sambalpur, and Waltair—to monitor and prevent the transportation of crackers on passenger-carried trains.

Monitoring Period:
From October 18th to November 16th, 2023, a total of 619 checks were conducted in trains, with 427 at stations and 182 checks at yards, pit lines, fueling points, etc. This proactive approach was aimed at enhancing safety during Diwali celebrations.
Zonal Railways has also counselled Lease Holders and their Staff, Parcel Staff, Pantry Car Staff, Catering Staff of Stations, Porters/Coolies, OBHS Staff and other outsourced Staff along with Passengers about the dangers of carrying inflammable items during train journeys.
In total, eight incidents have been registered, leading to the arrest of eight people in connection with these cases. Additionally, firecrackers valued at approximately Rs 24,350 have been seized during this period.
