At least four people were burned alive and one seriously injured after their Scorpio SUV collided head-on with a trailer and caught fire near Sada village under Sindhari police station limits in Balotra district, Barmer around midnight on Wednesday. The injured person was rushed to the hospital.
This marks the second major fire-related road tragedy in the Jodhpur region within a week. Earlier on Monday in Jaisalmer, an AC sleeper bus carrying 57 passengers caught fire, killing 20 people on the spot and injuring 16 others, two of whom later succumbed to their burns.
Police officials said, "All four youths were completely burned. The bodies will be identified through DNA testing by their relatives and then handed over to their families."
According to a Hindustan Times report, the five youths from Dabad village in Gudamalani were returning home from Sindhari after work when their Scorpio crashed into an oncoming trailer about 30 km from their village. The collision was so intense that both vehicles burst into flames within moments.
Eyewitnesses said the fire engulfed the vehicles within minutes. Locals immediately informed the police and fire department. Fire tenders from RGT Company and Balotra Municipal Council, assisted by villagers, managed to control the blaze, but both vehicles were completely destroyed.

The accident caused a heavy traffic jam on the Mega Highway, which took nearly two hours to clear once the charred remains of the vehicles were removed.
The Scorpio driver, Dilip Singh, son of Magh Singh, survived after being thrown out of the vehicle as the driver’s door flung open upon impact. He sustained serious injuries and was first taken to Sindhari Hospital before being referred to Balotra for further treatment.
Siwana DSP Neeraj Sharma identified the deceased as Mohan Singh (35), Shambhu Singh (20), Pancha Ram (22), and Prakash (28), all residents of Dabad village in Gudamalani, Barmer district. As the bodies were completely charred, DNA testing will be conducted to confirm their identities before they are handed over to their families. The bodies have been kept at the Sindhari Hospital mortuary, and police have cleared the wreckage from the highway. An investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the crash.
