Among the victims of the Jaisalmer bus fire tragedy are several heart-wrenching stories, including a man who lost his three grandchildren in the incident, while his son and daughter-in-law remain in critical condition.
The bus carrying 57 passengers departed from Jaisalmer around 3:30 PM on Tuesday, and was en route to Jodhpur when it caught fire on the Jaisalmer-Jodhpur highway, approximately half an hour later. With the vehicle’s only door jammed, many passengers were unable to escape, losing their lives in the tragedy.

Sohrab Khan’s son, Pir Mohammed, was travelling with his wife Imamat and their eight-year-old son Yunus to a hospital in Jaisalmer, located 30 km away from their village, for a medical check-up. They were accompanied by Yunus’s siblings, 10-year-old Hasina and 5-year-old Irfan, as well as Imamat’s sister. Khan’s family was aboard the bus when it caught fire just 10 km outside their village, NDTV reported.
After losing three grandchildren in the Jaisalmer bus fire tragedy, with son and daughter-in-law still in critical condition, the home of 73-year-old Sohrab Khan in Bambaron Ki Dhani village is shrouded in silence and sorrow.
Khan said he received a call from Mohammad informing him that the bus had caught fire. Although Mohammad, Imamat, Yunus, and Imamat’s sister managed to escape, Hasina and Irfan were still trapped inside.
Mohammad had told him that Yunus had suffered burns, and he and Imamat were severely injured and being taken to Jodhpur hospital for treatment. However, Khan did not hear from Mohammad after that.

The family later came to know that Hasina and Irfan died on the spot, and Yunus passed away during treatment. Mohammad and Imamat remain in critical condition, while Imamat’s sister suffered 30 per cent burns on her body.
“Khan has still not been told about Yunus' death, and he has been sitting in the chair, hoping that everyone, including his grandchildren, will return,” NDTV quoted a relative as saying.
