What Are Green Crackers?  Green crackers are known as the new age firecrackers that are less harmful to the environment, cause relatively less pollution and health risks from traditional crackers. According to the CSIR-National Environmental Engineering Research Institute, these green crackers are made with cleaner, less harmful chemicals and do not release as much toxic gas and particulate matter into the environment as conventional firework does.

How Are Green Crackers Safer for the Environment Than Traditional Fireworks?

Traditional fireworks release high levels of smoke, sulfur dioxide, and heavy metals into the environment, which all cause air pollution, respiratory issues, along environmental degradation. The dust and toxic particles from fireworks stay in the atmosphere, cause more smog and end up being the reason for many health issues, especially for children, people with respiratory illness and senior citizens.

On the other hand, green crackers cause less pollution, release less smoke, and evidently emit less amount of toxic gases. Additionally, they are also known to cause less noise pollution. It is important to note that green crackers use compounds based on nitrogen and green oxidisers. Conventional firecrackers are made with heavy metals like barium and strontium salts, which are more harmful.

This is the reason people across India promote green crackers, especially during the festival of lights -Diwali, when air pollution caused by crackers is at its peak.
