SC on Bursting Firecrackers: The Supreme Court on Wednesday gave a go-ahead for the sale and bursting of green firecrackers in Delhi-NCR for Diwali celebrations.
A bench led by Chief Justice B R Gavai and Justice K Vinod Chandran approved the joint plea by the Centre and Delhi government, easing the existing ban on green crackers.
The Supreme court also directed the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and NCR state pollution control boards to closely monitor pollution levels during Diwali and submit detailed reports.
“As a temporary measure, we allow bursting of crackers from October 18 to 21,” the bench said. “Crackers are smuggled into Delhi-NCR and they cause more damage than green firecrackers,” the CJI said while reading out the operative part of the order.
SC's Gives Conditions For Sale & Use Of Green Firecrackers
- The crackers being sold should have QR codes.
- The offline sale of green crackers will be permitted from October 18 to October 21.
- The court fixed the time of bursting the crackers:
-> From 6:00 AM to 7:00 AM in the morning.
-> From 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM in the evening.
- The Apex Court has mandated that the firecrackers can only be burst in “designated places.” This indicates that local authorities will be responsible for identifying and notifying specific open areas or grounds where community bursting can take place under supervision.
- No crackers from outside Delhi-NCR can be sold in the capital and if found, the licences of sellers will be suspended.
