Diwali Green Firecrackers Allowed: The Supreme Court on Wednesday allowed the sale of green firecrackers for two days on Diwali in Delhi-NCR. The top court partially relaxed the comprehensive ban on the sale and use of firecrackers in the national capital region, giving a reason to cheer to firecracker lovers, though the move may cause upset to the environment and animal activists. The apex court allowed the offline sale of green crackers from October 18 to October 21.
The SC allowed the bursting of certified "green crackers" on the day before Diwali and on the day of Diwali, but has imposed stringent conditions, including specific time slots and designated locations for their use.
Here Are The Key Conditions for the Sale And Use Of The Green Firecrackers
- The crackers being sold should have QR codes.
- The offline sale of green crackers will be permitted from October 18 to October 21.
- The court fixed the time of bursting the crackers between 6 pm and 10 pm.
- Only green crackers approved by CSIR–National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) are allowed.
- Only licensed traders registered with the NEERI can sell the green crackers.
- Sales will be allowed only at designated locations identified by the district collectors.
- Special patrolling teams will monitor all sales sites.
- Patrolling teams verify the QR codes on the products.
- The authorities will collect random samples to ensure compliance.
- The licences of violators will be cancelled.
- The Central and State Pollution Control Boards will track air quality (AQI) levels and submit reports to the top court.

Delhi Govt Welcomes SC Order
Reacting to the Supreme Court order, the Delhi government welcomed the relaxation on the sale and usage of green firecrackers.
"The Supreme Court nod to green firecrackers is welcome. Delhiites will traditionally celebrate Diwali after many years," said Culture Minister Kapil Mishra.
