Rajasthan Weather Update: Rajasthan continues to battle severe heat, with temperatures nearing 48 degrees C in several regions. The IMD has issued heatwave alerts for areas like Bikaner, Jodhpur, and Sri Ganganagar, warning of hot winds and warm nights.

However, some relief is on the horizon, with thunderstorms, dust storms, and light to moderate rainfall expected in parts of Jaipur, Bharatpur, Udaipur, and Kota over the next few days. The monsoon is likely to arrive in the state by late June, offering much-needed respite.

Thunderstorms, Dust Storms Expected in Multiple Districts

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued multiple weather alerts across the state. Districts including Udaipur, Sirohi, Dungarpur, Pratapgarh, Chittorgarh, Bhilwara, Jaipur, Kota, Jhalawar, Dausa, and Bundi are expected to witness thunderstorms, lightning, squalls, and dust storms in the coming days

Heatwave Warning for Bikaner and Jodhpur

The IMD has issued a heatwave alert for Bikaner, with warnings of intense heat and hot, dry winds. Bikaner, Jodhpur, Jaipur, and Bharatpur divisions are likely to experience heatwave conditions along with unusually warm nights.

Districts like Sri Ganganagar and Bikaner are expected to witness severe heatwave conditions, with night temperatures also remaining higher than normal.

Maximum temperatures in parts of Bikaner, Jodhpur divisions, and the Shekhawati region are expected to range between 45 degrees C and 48 degrees C from 22 to 24 May. These areas are also likely to experience hot, dusty winds (locally known as 'loo') blowing at speeds of 30–40 km/h, especially in the border regions.

Rain and Storm Forecast for Udaipur, Kota

The IMD has forecast thunderstorms and strong winds for 23 May (Thursday) in Jaipur, Bharatpur, and Bikaner divisions. Thunderstorms, dust storms, and light to moderate rainfall are also expected in parts of Udaipur and Kota divisions over the next 4–5 days.

Between May 24 and May 26 , scattered showers
accompanied by thunder are likely in Jaipur, Bharatpur, and Ajmer divisions. Cloudy skies, dust storms (40–50 km/h), and light to moderate rainfall are predicted in parts of Udaipur and Kota during the afternoons.

Similarly, Jaipur, Bharatpur, and Ajmer divisions may witness similar weather conditions from May 22 to May 26.

Heatwave Persists: Sri Ganganagar Records Highest Temperature

Despite forecasts of rain, much of Rajasthan continues to reel under extreme heat. On Thursday, Sri Ganganagar was the hottest place in the state, recording a maximum temperature of 47.3 degrees C. Several other cities also recorded temperatures above 45 degrees C.

Monsoon Expected by Late June

Relief from the scorching summer heat may be on the horizon. The southwest monsoon is expected to arrive in Rajasthan between June 20 and June 25 , beginning from the Udaipur and Kota divisions.

According to Radhey Shyam Sharma, Director of the Jaipur Meteorological Centre, the monsoon has already progressed over the southern Arabian Sea, Maldives, southern Bay of Bengal, Andaman Sea, and parts of the east-central Bay of Bengal. It is also expected to reach Kerala by May 23, four days earlier than the usual date of May 27.
