Mumbai BMW Hit-And-Run Case: In a fresh development around the ongoing Worli hit-and-run case, Rajesh Shah, the father of Mihir who is the main accused in the case, was removed from the post of Deputy leader of the Shiv Sena party led by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. The 23-year-old accused was arrested from Virar on Tuesday after remaining untraceable for two days. Mihir had been absconding after the car he was allegedly driving hit a scooter on Dr Annie Besant Road in Worli on Sunday, July 7, which resulted in the death of 45-year-old woman Kaveri Nakhwa.

Earlier on Tuesday, a Mumbai court extended the police custody of Rajesh Shah's driver, Rajrishi Singh Bidawat in the case until July 11. According to officials, Shah's driver was with Mihir Shah when the luxury car hit and killed woman Kaveri and injured her husband. Police arrested Bidawat and Mihir's father for their alleged involvement in the case.

The incident brought a sharp reaction from the opposition. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray called the Worli hit-and-run case a murder, claiming that the accused dragged the victim to a dairy and then hit her again by reversing the car.

Meanwhile, NCP-SCP national spokesperson Clyde Crasto urged the Maharashtra government to ensure that Mihir Shah does not receive any leniency or evade punishment due to his father's political connections with Shinde's party.

"We have seen before in the Pune hit-and-run case leniency was given to the accused because he had political connections. The Bhartiya Janata Party-led Maharashtra government must now make sure that just because the culprit is affiliated to the Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena, he should not be given leniency and go caught free," he said as quoted by news agency ANI.
