Rajouri Civilian Killing: A man was shot dead by terrorists in the Shadra Sharif area of Jammu & Kashmir's Rajouri district on Monday, officials said. The deceased has been identified as Abdula Razaq, news agency PTI reported citing officials. He was a public servant posted in the social welfare department. According to officials, Razaq's brother is a soldier in the Territorial Army.
The incident reportedly took place when Razaq stepped out of a mosque in his village, Kunda Top, which falls under the Thanamandi police station. He was shot at from a close range, officials added. Following the incident, security forces rushed to the spot and launched a massive cordon and search operation to hunt down the terrorists, officials informed.
Uptick In Targeted Attacks
This is the third instance of a civilian being attacked by terrorists in J&K in the past month. On April 17, a migrant worker from Bihar died after being shot at by terrorists in the Bijbehara area of South Kashmir's Anantnag district. The victim of the targeted attack was identified as Raju Shah. He sustained multiple bullet injuries in the shooting.
Earlier, on April 8, a tourist cab driver was injured in an attack by terrorists who opened fire at him in J&K's Shopian district. The incident took place in the Heerpora area of Shopian. This uptick in terror attacks targeting civilians in J&K tends to be more worrisome than usual in the context of the ongoing Lok Sabha election.
Notably, following the attack on Raju Shah, The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy outfit of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) claimed responsibility for the attack and termed it a "gift for your elections".
