Jagran Correspondent, Ayodhya: Amid the Ram Temple donation theft row, an important meeting of the Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust will be held on Monday. The meeting is likely to decide on the resignations of Trust General Secretary Champat Rai and member Anil Kumar Mishra. It will also review the findings of the interim SIT report on the donation counting dispute, along with the audit report for FY 2025-26 and other financial matters.
Most of the members of the trust are expected to attend the meeting to be held at the passenger convenience centre of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi complex from 3 pm. Some major decisions may be taken in this meeting. There are also talks of adding new officials to the trust.
On June 5, Ram Temple Donation Theft Case Came To Light
The Ram Temple donation theft case was exposed on June 5. Following this, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed on June 13 and a preliminary investigation led to the arrest of eight people.
Trustees Jagadguru Shankaracharya Swami Vasudevanand Saraswati, Yugpurusha Swami Paramananda and Krishnamohan have reached Ramnagari to attend the meeting. Treasurer Govinddev Giri, Nripendra Mishra, Swami Vishwaprasannatirtha, and some other members will also reach Ayodhya before 3 pm.
Treasurer Govind Giri has asked all members to attend the meeting. Senior advocate trustee K Parasaran and some other members will participate virtually.
Rules For Removing Trustees
- Since Champat Rai and Anil Mishra have already submitted their resignations, the key question now is what comes next. The Trust is also expected to deliberate on possible replacements, with names such as Bajrang Bangra and Neeraj Dauneriya reportedly under consideration.
- The Trust Deed outlines clear conditions under which a trustee may resign or be removed. One provision allows a trustee to step down by giving one month’s prior notice.
- If the board decides to remove a trustee for acting against the interests of the trust, a two-thirds majority vote is required. Before any removal, the trustee must be issued a show-cause notice and given an opportunity to respond and be heard.
- The upcoming meeting is significant as it will not only address resignations but also determine future administrative arrangements for the temple’s management. As General Secretary, Champat Rai has played a central role in the Trust’s operations.
- Voting rights are a crucial part of the process. The Board consists of 11 voting members, all of whom are eligible to vote on resolutions, including Mahant Dinendra Das of the Nirmohi Akhara, who was included following a Supreme Court order.
- As per the Trust Deed, a meeting is valid only if at least 50% of voting trustees are present. Decisions are taken by a majority vote.
- The Trust mandates that at least one trustee must belong to a Scheduled Caste category. In addition, representatives from the central government, the government of Uttar Pradesh, and the district magistrate of Ayodhya serve as ex officio trustees. The chairman of the temple construction committee, Nripendra Mishra, is also part of the Trust.
However, voting rights are limited to 11 members of the board.
- So far, eight individuals involved in the counting of temple donations have been arrested in the case.
- The Ram Mandir donation theft row began after an FIR was registered on June 25 over the alleged embezzlement of donations received at the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple.
