- Accused limited to 10 blood relatives and wives for visits.
- Meetings conducted in separate room under CCTV surveillance.
- Police recovered stolen items; SIT investigation ongoing.
Ravi Prakash Srivastava, Ayodhya: The jail administration has imposed strict restrictions on visits to those accused in the Ram Temple donation theft, allowing access only to ten designated blood relatives and, in addition, their wives.
How Do The Accused Meet Their Relatives?
The process of meeting these prisoners, who are under special protection, is different from that of ordinary prisoners. They are allowed to meet their relatives in a separate room in front of CCTV cameras.
A local intelligence unit employee is also present during this time. On Saturday, a relative of Karunesh and Ramashankar Mishra, accused of stealing offerings, arrived to meet under tight surveillance.
Karunesh, Ramashankar Mishra, Ramshankar Yadav, Manish Yadav, Subhash Srivastava, Anukalp Mishra, Lavkush Mishra, and Avinash Shukla have been sent to jail in connection with the donation theft case. The police have already obtained custody remand from the court and interrogated all of these accused, who are currently serving their days behind bars.
During their remand, the police recovered vehicles, jewellery, cash, and property records from them, which are being investigated. An SIT investigation is also underway.
As sensitive as the offering theft case is, the surveillance of those accused in it is equally strict. While a limited number of people are allowed to meet them, the items intended for them are searched under the supervision of higher officials, not by jail staff.
