Amid the ongoing Ram Temple donation theft case, the Supreme Court on Monday heard the matter after the Special Investigation Team (SIT), constituted by the Uttar Pradesh government, submitted its status report.
During the hearing, the court asked the parties not to politicise the Ram Temple donation row, observing that courts are not the place for politics.
"It's a simple case of commission of a crime; we are just to ensure proper investigation," says SC.
The apex court also asked the Solicitor General to take instructions on whether an SIT can be set up to probe the alleged embezzlement of donations at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.
The Supreme Court on Monday asked Solicitor General Tushar Mehta to seek instructions on whether a Special Investigation Team (SIT) could be constituted to investigate allegations of embezzlement of donations received by the Ram temple in Ayodhya.
In response, the Solicitor General told the apex court that SIT has already been constituted and Uttar Pradesh Police are investigating the allegations.
The Supreme Court will hear the matter again on July 27, when the Uttar Pradesh government will inform the court about the progress made in the SIT probe.
The development comes after the SIT team submitted an interim report, following which an FIR was registered and eight accused were arrested, and nearly Rs 80 lakh in cash was recovered which was allegedly taken from temple donations. The investigation also led to the resignations of former Trust general secretary Champat Rai and former trustee Anil Mishra.
The Trust is also scheduled to meet in Ayodhya on July 22 to discuss the SIT's findings.
