Jagran Correspondent, Ayodhya: Amid the ongoing Ram Mandir donation theft case, the focus has now shifted to whether the Uttar Pradesh Police will be able to secure a seven-day custody remand for Ramshankar Yadav alias Tinnu Yadav and his nephew Manish Yadav. The court is expected to decide on the police's plea on Friday.
So far, the police have obtained custody remand of six accused in the alleged theft of Ram Mandir offerings. Their attention is now on Tinnu Yadav and Manish Yadav.
On Thursday, a police team reached the jail and questioned both accused. Following the interrogation, an application was filed before the Special Judge under the Prevention of Corruption Act, seeking seven days of police custody for the duo. The matter is scheduled to be heard on Friday.
Meanwhile, the police also presented before the court the cash and valuables allegedly recovered at the instance of former bank employees Subhash Srivastava and Ramashankar Mishra, who were taken into 14-hour police custody on Wednesday.
According to Jagran.com, citing sources, the investigating officer, Circle Officer Ayodhya Ashutosh Tiwari, along with other police personnel, questioned Tinnu Yadav and Manish Yadav inside the jail on Thursday.
The police reportedly moved the remand application after getting several leads during the interrogation. On the same day, investigators also produced sealed boxes containing recovered valuables before the court.
The recovered items are reportedly said to include property-related documents, cash, and jewellery. However, the investigating officer declined to reveal further details. Police believe that, if granted custody remand, they will be able to take Tinnu Yadav and Manish Yadav to their suspected hideouts and recover additional cash and valuables allegedly linked to the theft of Ram Mandir offerings.
Investigators are also expected to identify immovable properties that surfaced during the probe. A few days ago, authorities reportedly discovered an expensive plot of land purchased by Tinnu Yadav in Saadatganj. Police suspect that the property was purchased using money allegedly stolen from the temple offerings.
