According to Agartala police officials, the chariot on the occasion of 'Ulto Rath', in the return journey as part of the annual Rath Yatra procession, was carrying the idols of Lord Jagannath and his two siblings -- Devi Subhadra and Lord Balabhadra when this incident happened.

The chariot was made of iron and was heavily decorated. When it came into contact with an overhead electric wire, it caused a surge of electricity, killing six on the spot. Thousands of people were pulling the Rath, made of iron when it came in contact with a 133 kv overhead cable, police said.

The police have launched an investigation into the incident and are trying to determine how the chariot came into contact with an electric wire.
