Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor, marking a key milestone in global infrastructure development.
The Economic corridor will connect India to the Middle East and Europe, to promote economic growth as well as political cooperation. The project has garnered support and enthusiasm from various world leaders including US President Joe Biden.
While speaking at the G20 Summit in Delhi, US President Joe Biden called the newly launched India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor ‘a really big deal’ that would prove to be a ‘game-changing investment’.
“This is a real big deal. I want to thank PM. One Earth, One Family, One Future that's the focus of this G 20 Summit. And in many ways, it's also the focus of this partnership that we're talking about today. Building sustainable, resilient infrastructure, making quality infrastructure investments and creating a better future,” Biden said, as quoted by news agency ANI.
Biden also mentioned the commitment made last year by the nations to commit to this vision and added that today the US and its partners are a part of it to make it a reality.
“As key part of this corridor, we are investing in ships and rails, that extends from India to Europe connected by the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Israel. It will make it far easier to trade. I want to thank sponsors and particularly Prime Minister Modi and (Saudi Crown Prince) Mohammed bin Salman," Biden said.
The US President also stressed increasing the impact of investments to overcome the infrastructure gaps among low-middle-income countries.
Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron also thanked PM Modi and US President Biden for their leadership in organising the landmark meeting.
Macron further pledged Europe's commitment to invest in the corridor, considering it a critical project that will provide enormous opportunities and connect people from Asia, the Middle East, and Europe.
The project was launched at Bharat Mandapam on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in New Delhi. “In times to come, it will become an effective medium for the economic integration of India, the Middle East, and Europe. It will give new direction to connectivity and sustainable development of the entire world," PM Modi said, as quoted by PTI.
