Reasi Temple Vandalism: As many as 43 persons have been detained so far in connection with the alleged vandalism at a Shiv temple in Reasi district of Jammu & Kashmir, officials informed. Protests were held across the Jammu region after a temple in a village in the Dharmari area was found desecrated on Saturday evening.
As the photos and videos of the vandalised temple went viral, locals and several Hindu outfits held protests at various places in Jammu. Meanwhile, bandh was observed in Reasi and Katra towns in the region. Visuals from the Reasi bus stand on Monday morning showed people burning tyres and protesting on the streets.
"Police has apprehended and detained 43 persons including 24 suspects in connection with the act of vandalism at a religious place in the Dharmari area of Arnas," Reasi Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mohita Shamra was quoted as saying by news agency PTI on Thursday. They are being interrogated, the official added.
The culprits will be brought in public very soon, she said. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by a deputy superintendent of police is carrying out the investigation into the matter. Sharma also appealed to the populace of Reasi to maintain peace and communal harmony, PTI reported.
