New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: A red alert has been sounded in the national capital after the Delhi Police received an intelligence input about the presence of 3-4 “highly-motivated” terrorists in the city, who are planning attacks during the ongoing festive season.
The input was of category-A, according to a Times of India report, which means that the information could be treated as extremely credible and all anti-terror measures should be pressed into service.
According to reports, the terrorists belong to the Jaish-e-Mohammed, who may have sneaked into the city last week to carry out terror attack in retaliation to the government’s move to abrogate Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir.
Following the intel input, the Special Cell of Delhi Police is conducting raids at several locations in Delhi and nearby regions. On Wednesday, raids were carried out at nine locations, including Paharganj, Jamia Nagar and Seelampur areas, and two suspects were detained for questioning.
All airports across North India have been put on alert and security has been beefed up following the terror threat.
Last month, it was reported that several terror launch pads had been revived in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and around 450-500 terrorists were ready to infiltrate into India to carry out terror attacks.
The spike in terrorist activities in the Valley have been on a rise ever since the government revoked Article 370 which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir. A flustered Pakistan has criticised the decision and has been making desperate attempts to internationalise the Kashmir issue.
The United States has also expressed a possibility of a terror attack on India by Pakistani terrorists. Many countries are concerned that Pakistani terrorists might launch attacks in India in the wake of the abrogation of Article 370 which offered special status to the erstwhile state, Randall Shriver, assistant secretary of defence for Indo-Pacific Security Affairs, has recently said.
