Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa, along with his partner Pavithra Gowda and 10 others, were arrested on charges of murder. The Sandalwood actor and others are accused of killing Renuka Swamy, a 33-year-old man who worked at a pharmacy in Chitradurga, nearly 200 kilometres from Bengaluru.

The Bengaluru police apprehended the suspects on Tuesday morning from a hotel in Mysuru. Following their arrest, a Bengaluru court ordered a six-day police custody for the prime accused. Bengaluru City Police Commissioner B. Dayananda confirmed the ongoing interrogation of the actor in connection with the murder case registered at Kamakshipalya police station.

Renuka Swamy Murder Case

Renuka Swamy, the deceased, was the sole son of his parents and his wife is currently expecting. Police investigation revealed that he had allegedly sent offensive messages to Pavithra Gowda on social media, which allegedly led to the tragic sequence of events.

On the morning of June 9th, a security guard discovered Renuka Swamy’s body with visible injury marks by the roadside near an apartment complex. The FIR noted injuries to the face and ears, prompting a murder investigation. Initial detentions led to a broader inquiry, uncovering a more complex plot involving the Kannada actor and his associates.

Role Of Fans Association In Renuka Swamy Murder Case 

According to police officials, Darshan utilised his fans association to locate Renuka Swamy after the offensive messages were sent. The victim was subsequently abducted from Chitradurga and brought to Bengaluru, where he was brutally assaulted in a shed at Rajarajeshwari Nagar. His body was later found dumped in Sumanahalli, close to the alleged crime scene.

Darshan Thoogudeepa Legal History 

This incident adds to a series of legal troubles for Darshan, also known as 'D Boss' among his fans. His past includes an arrest for domestic violence in 2011, an accusation of assaulting a waiter in 2021 and a complaint of intimidation by a producer. Additionally, he faced legal action for wildlife violations last year.

Public Reaction To Darshan Thoogudeepa's Arrest

The arrest has sent shockwaves through the Kannada film industry and among the actor’s extensive fan base. Darshan, the son of the late actor Thoogudeepa Srinivas, has been a prominent figure in the industry and politics. He also supported former Lok Sabha MP and actress Sumalatha during the 2019 Lok Sabha election campaign.
